Puerto Lopez is currently undergoing an $8 million makeover funded by the central government. Four kilometers of beachfront and the waterfront boulevard ("malecon") are being landscaped as park land with trees, vegetation and walking paths. A low curving wall and radiating steps to the beach wind along the 4km beachfront. All electric lines will be laid underground. This construction is well advanced and completion is expected mid-July 2016.
