Here's something you don't always see in Ecuador... soil testing! We ensure that all of our homes are built on solid ground and have a construction base that exceeds structural engineering requirements.
When the base isn't sufficient, we take the neccesary steps to ensure that the base is adequate. In this case we removed six feet of "loose soil" and replaced it with a soild construction base.

Here is the lot with the offending soil removed.

And here is the new solid construction base.

We even had it compacted layer by layer using a vibrating roller.

Then the column footings went in...

and the columns and beams were poured, all using basalt washed sand... not beach sand... you really have to be careful here or the wrong materials will be used. We make sure everything is done right and the resulting structure is solid.
